We often encounter the same words with differences in spelling, but this is not due to any error—rather, they are written in American English. In Kabinata's course, and also at school, we study British English.
Sometimes, however, texts include words from American English. Here are some of them:
British American
pavement sidewalk – sidewalk
lift elevator – elevator
trousers pants – pants
underground subway – subway
flat apartment – apartment
rubbish garbage – garbage
lorry truck – truck
rubber eraser – eraser
holiday vacation – vacation
torch flashlight – flashlight
There are also some with differences in only certain letters
British : American
favourite : favorite
colour : color
centre : center
theatre : theater
kilometre : kilometer
travelling : traveling
travelled : traveled
Of course, there are many others. 🙂
