Duck
A friendly form of address used in central and northern England.
Duck, however, does not mean 'darling'. A woman can use it as a form of address to another woman, just as a man can to another man.
It is used not only between friends, but also between acquaintances, and even strangers.
For example:
My duck.
That'll be fifteen pounds ninety, my duck (shopkeeper to customer).
Duck [dʌk]
Duck (the bird).
Fig. chick, duckling, dear, sweetie (as a form of address, and DUCKs, DUCKy).
