In American English, colors are used not only with their primary meanings but also in a figurative sense. These are usually expressions in which they participate, but we don't translate them literally—they have a different meaning.
RED
see red – become very angry
red-letter day – a memorable, especially important or happy day
BLUE
Out of the blue – suddenly and unexpectedly
True-blue – faithful or unwaveringly loyal
To feel blue – to be sad and unhappy
PINK
In the pink – in very good condition; healthy
GREEN
Green-eyed monster – jealousy
WHITE
White lie – a minor, polite or harmless lie
Wave the white flag – to give up, to surrender; yield
BLACK
Black sheep (of the family) – a person who causes shame or embarrassment because of his / her behavior
