About this lesson
In this B2 lesson you will master the present and past gerund (gerundio presente and passato) as a tool for compressing subordinate clauses — of manner, cause, time and condition — against the backdrop of science, inventions and innovation. You will practise shortening clumsy conjunction-based constructions by using the gerundio and short participial phrases (participio assoluto: terminato l'esperimento, avendo formulato l'ipotesi) and describing a scientific experiment or discovery step by step. You will also consolidate the consecutio temporum when switching between presente and passato, as well as connettivi of cause and effect as an explicit alternative to the implicit link.
