Leçon 37 – À travers la presse sportive

In this lesson we study the passive voice in French in the context of the sports press – how it is formed, when it is used and which alternative constructions carry a passive meaning.

About this lesson

In Lesson 5 of level B1-1 we dive into the world of sports journalism to discover how the passive voice works in French. You will learn how to transform active sentences into passive ones in the present, past and future tenses. You will understand when «par» is used and when «de» is used as the preposition introducing the agent. You will also become familiar with alternative constructions with a passive meaning, such as (se) faire + infinitive and the pronominal verb. The practical exercises are inspired by real sports reports and civic news.
