About this lesson

In this lesson you will learn the English vocabulary related to appointments and job applications. You will get to know useful words and phrases such as "qualifications", "experience", "applicant" and "track record", used in real dialogues between managers and candidates. You will read an authentic job advertisement, follow a telephone conversation about an application and learn how to write a formal letter in English. Mastering this vocabulary will help you cope confidently in situations related to looking for a job, interviews and submitting documents in English.

  • applicant The successful applicant is likely to be under 35.
  • to recruit Most companies recruit new staff by advertising in the press or on the Internet.
  • track record The successful applicant should have an outstanding track record in the field of software engineering.
  • fringe benefits The job offers a company car and generous fringe benefits.
  • to draft What we need to do now is to draft the advertisement.
  • postgraduate qualification Preferably a postgraduate qualification plus at least three years' experience.
  • fluent They must be fluent in English and Romanian.
