To make a phone call. To inform.
It is primarily used for calling the police to report someone's activities.
Examples:
Drop a Huggy Bear's always dropping a dime, I can't believe he's still alive.
Don't hang around with her, she's a dime dropper.
When he least expects it, I drop a dime on him.
