Lesson 10: Debating and Arguing Public Issues

About this lesson

The final B1-level lesson brings everything together: linking expressions for contrast and consequence, sharing personal opinions and feelings, polite disagreement, and partial agreement. We'll also work with the subjunctive after expressions such as «bien que» and «je ne pense pas que», practise active listening, and run a short structured debate on an urban topic. All exercises are hands-on and geared towards real-world communication and decision-making.

What you'll learn

• Structure an argument using logical linking expressions (cependant, en revanche, donc, bien que…).
• Express personal opinions with nuance, and politely disagree or partially agree.
• Use the subjunctive correctly after expressions such as «bien que» and «je ne pense pas que».
• Propose solutions and seek compromise when discussing a public issue (sustainable cities, transport, noise).
• Participate confidently in a short debate: making a statement, responding with agreement or disagreement, and summarising.
