In Spanish, unlike Bulgarian, when converting direct speech to indirect speech, there is tense agreement. This means there is a specific transformation of one tense into another. This agreement occurs under certain conditions. When the verb in the main clause is in the present tense, i.e. Plan presente: Presente, Pretérito Perfecto, Futuro Simple, Futuro Compuesto, there is no change of tense in the subordinate clause. However, when the verb in the main clause is in the past tense, i.e. Plan pasado: El Indefinido, El Pluscuamperfecto, El Imperfecto, El Condicional Simple, El Condicional Compuesto, the agreement is made in the following way: Presente de Indicativo – Imperfecto de Indicativo
Futuro Simple – Condicional Simple
Pretérito Perfecto – Pluscuamperfecto de Indicativo
Pretérito Indefinido – Pluscuamperfecto de Indicativo; all other tenses remain as they are.
