On time / in time; At the end / in the end

Englischlernende haben häufig Schwierigkeiten mit der Verwendung von Präpositionen in Ausdrücken wie diesen: On time / in time; At the end / in the end

On time – bedeutet genau zur vereinbarten Zeit, nicht später. Das Ereignis findet zur exakt geplanten Zeit statt.

The 11.45 train left ON TIME .(= IT LEFT AT 11.45 )

Der Zug um 11.45 Uhr fuhr pünktlich ab. (um 11.45)

Please, be there ON TIME.( =don't be late /be there at 7.30)

In time – rechtzeitig genug, um etwas zu tun;

Will you be at home IN TIME for dinner?(= soon enough for dinner);

Aber: Wenn wir 'just' hinzufügen, bedeutet es wieder 'genau zur rechten Zeit'

We got to the station JUST IN TIME to catch the train.

At the end (of something) – der Zeitpunkt, wenn etwas endet.

at the end of the month / at the end of the film /at he end of January;

I'm going away at the end of January.

Das Gegenteil von 'at the end' ist 'at the beginning' (Das Gegenteil des Ausdrucks 'am Ende' ist 'am Anfang');

at the beginning of the concert/ of January;

In the end = finally – wir verwenden es, wenn wir sagen, was das Endergebnis einer bestimmten Situation war;

Tom couldn't decided where to go for his holidays.He decided to go to Italy in the end .
